One of my latest web projects involves creating and managing the website for Hillview School. It's such a large project that it has been split into various stages and right now, stage 1 is complete.
Stage 1 involved setting up the Linux webserver, creating the style for the website and producing essential webpages. Some of the webpages I'm particularly pleased with. The calendar page for example, features dates that are “smart” and remove themselves from the page as the holiday ends.
Another page I particular like is the prospectus page, which features an up-to-date web-ready school prospectus in both PDF and FlashPaper formats! FlashPaper is an application that is bundled into Macromedia Studio 8 and lets you produce documents as Flash files. You can then embed them into webpages, or insert them into other Flash projects. With browsers such as Internet Explorer 6 including the Flash plug-in out-of-the-box, it is almost guaranteed that the visitor will be able to view the document!
The next stages are going to be pretty exciting and at the moment I'm working on a single sign-on system for the intranet and the website so staff will only have to remember one password! …Their network password! I'll post more on that once I've finished it but please feel free to explore the website as it stands at the moment.
